Trish Elphinstone Labour
City Council Quarry & Risinghurst
County Council
1. The City Council has worked hard to make sure that no-one has been homeless during Covid. It has set up the Oxford Hub to help vulnerable people across receive support - whether it is talking on the phone, provision of food and medicines through the co-ordinated Street Champions Group
Oxford City Council is one of the few councils that provide council tax relief
More information on the aims and help given can be found on the City manifesto
The County are working hard to connect and listen to diverse communities across Oxfordshire. Working to deliver public services for adult and children's social care and to provide education and support for the vulnerable and to improve mental health and youth services
The Active Travel scheme seeks to improve health by promoting healthier streets and travel - including the development of safe cycle routes and much more
For more detail see the Oxfordshire County manifesto
2. I would contact Mike Rowley as he was instrumental in providing housing for the homeless and would be best placed to answer this question [email protected]
3. I have worked with many groups across Oxford including Asylum Welcome in Cowley, Littlemore Hospital residents and various diverse music groups which bring people together including Confluence Collective and the Oxford Jazz Kitchen
Local to the area I live: I have been Street Champion for some streets in Headington Quarry (bringing people together with a lights festival and street carols) and I am a committee member of Headington Community Association and Risinghurst Community Association.
I like working with people and have always been engaged with community groups
4. The pandemic has taught me how important it is to be part of the community and how much we rely on each other for support. It is important that, as candidates we engage, listen and respond to peoples' concerns. It has been a difficult time for many and a time for reflection on what is important. And that is to be open to different opinions and work to the common good
5. The Citizen's Assembly is the way forward to engage people and deal with the Climate Crisis. It is not something that can be ignored and we need to bring people along with you if you want to effect change before it is too late
