Richard Howlett Labour: Carfax
Many thanks for this and all your continued work on this agenda.
I shall continue to work cross-party where I can, am always open to residents asking to meet with me and will continue to do all I can to ensure we implement the will of the citizens assembly.
At the same time, on a more personal note, I find myself in the bizarre situation of still being a councillor when I had not been due to stand for election. This has meant I don’t have the time for the role I did before which unfortunately means I can do less on this front.
Alex Hollingsworth Labour: Carfax
Since first being elected in 1994 I have always done my best to follow the first four principles – indeed I know that I was responsible for several innovations in the way in which councillors kept in touch with residents during my time as a councillor for Barton in the 1990s. With regard to the Ward Member Budget, of course I consult with local residents about what it should be spent on, but my preference has always been to reserve final judgement to myself. When it comes to competing calls on the funds, the voices that shout loudest can sometimes drown out the voices of those in greatest need. I don’t believe that a referendum would be appropriate.
On the final bullet point I fully endorse it.
