Reports covered:
- Community In contrast to a poorly functioning Parish Council, a group operating out of the local Methodist chapel which had been bought by the community and is now also running the Post Office. Activities included tea and chats, community groups meeting, yoga. Non-political and about democratic action, but also anti-capitalist.
- Climate Citizens Assembly and its effect on the participants; the validity of its setting up and the processes of consciousness raising; that everyone should have this information… Green recovery needs to be prioritised. Big question: will their recommendations be taken forward? XR supporting new Bill which has a CA written into it.
- On Democracy Day of Action [August 22]; a Make Votes Matter [single issue group campaigning for PR/electoral reform] stall in Summertown. Two mentions and pictures in the Oxford Mail and Oxford Times.
- A local food hub being successfully run by a young charismatic man; need to be aware of the danger of dependence on one person.
- Schools project proposal to organise ODC sessions with/between local high profilers and schools. Reports of other groups working, eg the Oxford Youth Group, a standing group. The Oxford Panel – virtual discussion.
- Yorkshire Bylines – part of a network of local Bylines where articles are written by local citizens. Could we start one here?
- Greening Jericho, revitalisation of the corner of Mount Place alongside the canal revitalised in a joint project together with the city council. Greening Jericho.
- Influencers; a group developing from Citizens Advice, of people with common concerns meeting on for example issues of housing; filling a space rather than allowing such spaces to be filled by fascists and racists. The benefits of CA; mixing up people from different backgrounds. The Oxford Influence Group
- Bus Gates and the great tensions in Jericho about the closure of Walton Street and proposed BG at Worcester Place. Maybe run a Citizens Jury on such issues?
