Press release from Oxford Democracy Cafe
For publication week starting 4th May 2020 Local Democracy This week on Thursday 7th May all 48 city council seats should have been up for election of councillors, both those re-standing and new candidates. In preparation for this election Oxford Democracy Café wrote a short Manifesto for Local Democracy to highlight the minimum requirements we believe city councillors of all parties should be meeting in order to adequately represent and engage with their electorate. In normal circumstances this Manifesto would have been used by citizens across the city as the basis for discussion with prospective candidates. In these far from normal circumstances we believe the Manifesto to be equally important in highlighting how we the people of Oxford wish our representatives to proceed in the next year. We are therefore contacting all current City Councillors to ask them to commit to these principles and to explain how they currently meet them or plan to do so. We will publish their responses on our website: www.oxforddemocracycafe.org |
